What does your daily work routine look like in Treasure Beach?
I eat fresh eggs everyday before work. They’re very high quality compared to the US. I do less-important conference calls outside in the shade, and important ones behind closed doors in the air conditioning. Around lunch or when I have a break, I jump in the sea, at least once a day. When work winds down, it’s sunset time!

What’s the highlight of your day?
Easy: my daily sea swim.

What feels different to you working from here?
I’ve traveled to the Caribbean for a week or less before, strictly on vacation. Working here allowed me to stay for a month, and with this extra time I’ve become more in touch with the local community and cuisine. E.g., I’ve met a few locals I see on the beach every other day, who I can chat with from a safe social distance. I also learned how to prepare ackee and saltfish!

How safe do you feel?
I feel safe, both from crime and COVID. Treasure Beach is sparsely populated, which makes me feel safer about COVID transmission.

What about Treasure Beach has aided your creative process?
I’m a business professional, so not exactly a creator, but being in Treasure Beach allowed me to shed some of my COVID baggage and be more present at work. Treasure Beach helped lift the “COVID brain” fog I experienced being at home for nine months.

Any surprises?
I was surprised by how reliable the internet is. It’s great for video calls.

Would you recommend others to come join you? If so, why?
Yes! Reliable internet, lunchtime beach breaks, magical sunsets … need I say more?

Any real downsides or stuff others thinking about this journey should know?
In case you need a wired ethernet connection, the games room common area has a hookup.

What does your daily work routine look like in Treasure Beach?
My workday usually begins with breakfast at the restaurant and then my daily Webex call at 9:30 for one hour, usually taken at a quiet table at the restaurant.

What’s the highlight of your day?
When I’m winding up my day checking email with the backdrop of the ocean and the setting sun.

What feels different to you working from here?
Being outdoors while working remotely with the sound of the ocean.

How safe do you feel?
I felt extremely safe.

What about Treasure Beach has aided your creative process?
The grounds and villas were so well designed to fit in with the environment. This has presented a harmonious, stress-free environment, which allowed me to get through my day accomplishing work which would otherwise have been pretty mundane.

Any surprises?
I was pleasantly surprised at how seamless it was working remotely — no glitches with internet service, which was essential.

Would you recommend others to come join you? If so, why?
If you are living in a big city and feeling boxed in and need to be in a place where you can be one with nature, coming to Jakes is highly recommended.

Any real downsides or stuff others thinking about this journey should know?
It would be helpful if you could offer deals on a monthly basis, especially cottages with a kitchen to accommodate those who would like to feel like they are home. [Note: Email Jakes for details!]

What does your daily work routine look like in Treasure Beach?
No need for an alarm in TB, I naturally wake up to the sounds of the sea and a rising sun. As if that weren’t enough to get my day started off on the right foot, I take a short walk to the beach with a cup of Blue Mountain coffee and plan my day out. It’s amazing how having my feet in the sand helps me stay in a positive frame of mind, and more ready to take any task on. Still not yet 9, I have time before my first meetings to take a quick swim. Breakfast of fresh fruit, and fresh baked bread from Audrey keeps me going through the morning grind. Early afternoon I make a light lunch of fresh greens grown in the hills of Treasure Beach. While the internet is powerful enough for me to stay connected on my zoom call whilst sitting on the veranda overlooking the sea, I’ve learned my colleagues don’t much appreciate that view when they are stuck in the midst of an east coast winter… better stick with that clearly virtual background of palm trees rather than the real thing. An afternoon of project work, and then around 5:30, I sign off for the day to enjoy the sunset, an evening swim, and then a relaxing evening reading.

What’s the highlight of your day?
The sea, I love starting and ending my day with a swim.

What feels different to you working from here?
My attitude, I just feel lighter and happier, so at work I’m finding it easier to focus and more rewarding collaborating with colleagues.

How safe do you feel?
Completely. Social distancing practices are adhered to, and being able to spend time outdoors is amazing.

What about Treasure Beach has aided your creative process?
The warmth and energy of this community is inspiring. The environment helps me keep my mind clear and positive.

Any surprises?
An octopus in the tide pools of Old Wharf!!!

Would you recommend others to come join you? If so, why?
Yes yes and yes! Treasure Beach has always been a great place to recharge, refocus, renew. Now with the ability to work remotely, it’s a great time to have a little escape and still stay connected and productive in your work life.

Any real downsides or stuff others thinking about this journey should know?
Pure jealousy from your friends at home.

What does your daily work routine look like in Treasure Beach?
Start my day with an early morning walk around Treasure Beach. / Breakfast at 8:30/9am (fresh juice, fruit bowl and coffee). / Sit at my ‘office’ taking calls & meetings until 1pm. / Return to my room to work on the veranda or balcony. / On days I have lunch, order at the restaurant and return 20 minutes later to pick it up, as there is no room service at the time. / Take calls until 6 or 7pm / Depending on how my day is going, get a cocktail around 5:30pm

What’s the highlight of your day?
Hmmm, I guess the free moments in my day when I can chill and talk to other guests/new friends or staff. Evening conversations/drinks at the bar. Exploring Treasure Beach.

What feels different to you working from here?
I would say everything: working in a peaceful environment, working by the ocean is an instant stress reducer. Despite the fact I have the same workload I did at home, it felt less and my overall attitude to work was different. I didn’t dread mornings or Mondays like I usually do. Working from Jakes worked wonders for my mental health and general well being.

How safe do you feel?
Very safe! Never ever felt not safe

What about Treasure Beach has aided your creative process?
The quiet. Having the time to sit, enjoy the moment and think

Any surprises?
No

Would you recommend others to come join you? If so, why?
Most definitely. It was a trip I will never forget and a place I plan to regularly return to.

Any real downsides or stuff others thinking about this journey should know?
I didn’t think to carry bug spray but that would be the first thing I would recommend bringing…bug spray with deet! And take an extension cord to have more options to recharge.
